Immigration Law

Immigration law pertains to the collection of rules which were established by the government to determine who are allowed to enter the country, the time frame they are allowed to do so and to keep track of foreigners who enter and leave the country. Foreigners are given visas which allow them to enter the country and stay for a certain period of time. They would be required to leave the country before the visa expiration or would take steps to extend their stay. When foreign naturals have overstayed their visit with expired visas, have entered the country illegally or have committed various illegal or undesirable acts, immigration law is utilized to carry out detention and deportation proceedings.

This law also refers to the governance of the naturalization proceedings for individuals who have the desire to become local citizens. Foreigners who wish to permanently stay in the country for various applicable reasons or who have married a local resident and citizen would need to undergo proceedings that are instructed and mandated by various laws such as R.A. No. 91939 or the Administrative Naturalization Law of 2000.

Other scope of responsibilities of Immigration Laws includes issues on human trafficking, migrant or overseas workers and departure guidelines for international-bound passengers.
